Welcome to maryhardingjewelry
Mary Harding McCallion is a bead artist living in St. Lawrence County. She has been making beaded jewelry since 1994. Her creations include neckpieces, cuff bracelets and strung handmade ceramic bead bracelets and necklaces
She has specialized in freeform peyote stitch cuff bracelets. These bracelets are made with an early Native American off loom bead stitch called the peyote or gourd stitch. In recent years, beaders have rediscovered this artform and it has become popular throughout the beading community. The forgiving and creative nature of free form peyote makes it a wonderful medium for artistic expression. Each bracelet becomes a meditative journey that is enjoyed for the adventure in the process and the delight in its final destination. Bracelets are not planned, they happen making each bracelet a unique work of art.
Mary Harding McCallion also makes her own ceramic clay of the earth beads, pendants, and vessel pendants to be used in her strung necklaces and in her freeform peyote stitch creations. Her beads are both slip cast and hand built. Each bead is individually decorated with stampings, multiple stainings, firings and glazing often resulting in an ancient or primitive look. More recently she has begun to use impressions from wildflowers and plants that blossom in the summer in the pastures of Northern New York.
Mary Harding is a pround memeber of the Beads of Clay Yahoo Group (BOC).
